Adoption is a lifelong journey of learning. The AEP-Online program is designed to provide prospective adoptive parents with a strong foundation of knowledge for caring for their adopted child. This program fulfills the legal requirements for adoption education in the areas it is offered.

Course description

The AEP Online Foundations takes place over 15 weeks and covers the legal, social and emotional aspects of adoption. Because the program is online, lessons are taught through a variety of media and assignments can be completed at your convenience.

The AEP Online Foundations course is for general, concurrent planning, and child-specific applicants that have not taken any previous AEP training. This course provides prospective adoptive parents with legal, social, and emotional adoption education. Core modules include: attachment, separation & loss, prenatal exposure, and cultural considerations in adoption and openness. Social worker referral is required. MCFD block funding is available to social worker-approved applicants. A non-refundable registration fee of $95 is payable by participants at time of registration.

Your learning process will be supported by an AFABC facilitator and you'll be able to contact the AEP-Online Coordinator for questions, concerns and technical support.

*Note: This course includes 5 mandatory live online discussions. The 1-hour online live discussions are typically held during weekday evenings. In the event of scheduling conflicts, please contact the AEP-Online Coordinator
