Safe Babies Online Workshop - Winter 2021
To receive a completion certificate for this Safe Babies course, participants are also required to obtain infant/child first aid training outside of AFABC and provide a copy of their certificate to the AFABC registrar. Infant/child first aid training is offered across the province through St. Johns Ambulance and other first-aid organizations.
Format: This online course is composed of three 1.5-hour online workshops and three hours of self-directed homework.

Session 1 - Prenatal exposure
- Understanding women and addiction
- Bringing home baby
- Stressors and self-care
Session 2 - Health and development
- Public health and infant development programs
- Infant child development
- Developmental red flags
- Infant mental health
Session 3 - FASD
- Introduction to FASD
- FASD key worker presentation
- Questions and discussion
- Personal story video
Activities: Presented in an online multi-media format, activities include: live online presentations, online group discussions, watching videos, reading articles, guest speakers from the community, and homework assignments.
This workshop uses the Zoom online meeting platform. Please check your computers/devices compatibility here.
Facilitator: This course is taught by a Safe Babies trained online facilitator.
Audience: This workshop is directed toward adoptive and permanency parents and referred foster parents. We recommend that participants have taken AEP or foster parent training before this course. This workshop is for adults only.
Dates: February 4th, 11th, and 18th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Fee: $150 per person. To receive a Safe Babies certificate, participants must register individually.
