Trauma Informed Parenting: The First Year of Placement Online Workshop - Spring 2021
Format: This course is composed of three 1.5-hour online workshops and three hours of self-directed homework. In addition, the facilitator will host an optional one-hour group follow up call to support participants as they work to implement the strategies discussed in the three-part workshop.
Course outline:
Session 1 - Understanding trauma and the relationship between adoption and trauma.
- Understanding trauma
- Children in care
- Child/adolescent development
- Attachment
Session 2 - Transitioning. The first six months after placement
- Healing from trauma - an ecological perspective
- Trauma informed principles in the first six months
- Predictable adjustments in the first six months
Session 3 - Opportunity. Six months to one year after placement
- Predictable adjustments six months and beyond
- Trauma informed parenting principles
- Self-care
Activities: Presented in an online multi-media format, activities include: live online presentations, online group discussions, watching videos, reading articles, homework assignments.
This workshop uses the Zoom online meeting platform. Please check your computers/devices compatibility here.
Facilitator: This course is taught by an instructor with over 16 years in the permanency field. She holds her MSW and is a PH.D. candidate in Child and Youth Care.
Audience: Prospective and current adoptive parents.
Dates: April 27th, May 4th, and May 11th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Optional group follow up call: May 25th at 7:00 PM
Fee: $95 per person.
