The Teens and Tweens online workshop offers an introduction to the parental joys, challenges, and typical behaviours connected to parenting a teen or tween adoptee.
The three-part online workshop will enable prospective and adoptive parents to understand teen development and provide tips and tools to support their parenting journey.
Format: This course is composed of three 1.5-hour online workshops and three hours of self-directed homework.
Course outline:
Session 1 - Caution
- Understanding the developing brain
- Impact of trauma on the developing brain
- What the teenage brain needs to thrive
- Teen identity and the parent's role
Session 2 - Impacts
- Understanding teen behaviours
- Attachment
- Openness
Session 3 - Let’s talk tough stuff
- Sex
- Drugs
- Mental health
- Mindfulness
Activities: Presented in an online multi-media format, activities include: live online presentations, online group discussions, watching videos, reading articles, homework assignments.
This workshop uses the MS Teams online meeting platform. The steps to join a Teams meeting can be found here.
Audience: The workshop is designed to build on learning obtained during the AEP Online course. It is recommended that the participants have completed the AEP or an equivalent adoption education program.
Dates: February 15, 22, March 1, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Fee: $50 per person
