This is an online workshop on trauma and loss for parents and caregivers.

Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in the healing journey of children and youth who have experienced loss and trauma.

That’s why AFABC has partnered with the Adoption Council Ontario (ACO) to offer this FREE training. Parents and caregivers will learn about the complexities of raising children and youth who’ve experienced loss and trauma, and discover how to meet their needs effectively.

This workshop will be held on Zoom over two half-days. The facilitators will provide a framework for parenting through the loss and trauma experiences unique to children on a permanency journey.

Here's what we'll cover:

Day 1

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences and Developmental Trauma
  • Loss and the Seven Core Issues in Adoption and Permanency
  • Childhood Development
  • Attachment

Day 2

  • Youth Journey Mapping
  • Therapeutic Parenting
  • Self-Compassion
  • Resources
