Coming Soon: New Name, Brand, and Website

The landscape of adoption is changing--and so is AFABC.
As the world has evolved, our work has gradually expanded.
We’ve learned that programs and services we developed for adoptive families are needed by other permanency families, and that former foster youth also need our support.
It’s an honour to serve this expanded community and to include them in our vision of “family for every child.”
Now it’s time for a bold new name and brand that better reflects everything we do and everyone we serve.
Adoption remains the heart of where we've come from and where we're going.
Our community increasingly includes other permanency families (guardianship, kinship, etc.), as well as youth aging out of government care.
It’s an honour to serve these families and youth and to include them in our vision of “family for every child.”
They’ve been using our programs and services for years, and they deserve to be reflected in our identity.
We're also committed to truth and reconciliation. That starts with listening to and learning from Indigenous people.
One thing we’ve heard over and over is that our name gets in the way of this work. The word “adoption” has painful associations for many Indigenous people, and having it front and centre in our name causes harm.
At the same time, for 45 years adoption has been our identity. That isn't going away, and neither are our services for adoptive families.
We’re staying laser-focused on kids and youth who cannot be raised by their birth parents, and the caring adults who open their hearts and homes to them.
It’s time for a bold new name that makes sense for all of us. A name that’s big enough and special enough for our unique community.
We’re also long overdue for a more modern, accessible, useful website—so we’re developing one of those, too.
We expect it’ll take about a year and a half to complete the revamp and be ready to launch our new name, brand, and website.
We can’t wait to share the results with you when the time comes!
