Open Adoption: Connecting Lives is a resource that allows prospective adoptive parents to hear about open adoption from diverse voices of experience. Adoptees, birth family members, and adoptive parents share their unique insights and teach us about what it takes to extend traditional boundaries about what ‘family’ means. Families share their stories of building relationships, challenges and successes, and give advice to other families entering into open adoptions.
The film reinforces that children thrive on maintain connections with birth family and other who love them, such as foster family. It also stresses how much families feel these relationships have enriched their lives and taught them much about relationships, respect, empathy, responsibility, parenting, and their capacity to understand and love others. As several people in the film state, the bigger the circle of people who love and care about a child, the better!
